Maciej Wlodarczyk is Information Security Officer at Sanoma. In his current role, he focuses on Sanoma Media Finland’s security. He is also involved in Group IT’s privacy-related matters. Before joining Sanoma, Maciej worked in multiple roles related to IT business, including software development, architecture, EA, security and privacy, with the most recent as Head of Security Management and Group Privacy Manager in Tieto.

Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.

Early on in my career when I was developing and architecting software, I had become aware of the importance of information security. I have continued educating myself in the field of security, and my interest grew over the years gradually transitioning to full time security roles.
 

What is one of your guiding leadership principles?

Enable and help people. Provide the rationale, instead of authority.
 

With disruption being a key theme of the past few years, where do you see your role as a CISO going in the next 1-2 years?

Creating trust that the security risks are managed on the expected level. Enabling innovation in a risk aware fashion.
 

What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the role as a CISO?

Build trust and connection with the leadership team. You will not be able to achieve much if you do not have trust and commitment from leadership .

I am a certified lifeguard.
