François Bidondo is the Group CISO for RATP Group. He has worked in cybersecurity for 20 years, observing the move from IT security to cybersecurity. Now, there’s been an increasing focus on enterprise risk management.
François started working in the French public environment at the Defence Ministry before moving to the international private sector. He worked in consulting, banking and industry before finally coming back to a semi-public environment at RATP Group.

Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.
I started as a telecom and security engineer before I moved to management roles. Through exposure, I found my way to my current role.
What is one of your guiding leadership principles?
One of my guiding leadership principles comes from the Nelson MandeIa quote: "I never lose. I either win or learn." I think we can always get something positive from any situation.
What is the greatest challenge CISOs face today, and how are you addressing it?
A challenge CISOs are facing is communication. Cybersecurity embraces a very large scope and requires you to speak to many different people. A team with diverse profiles and skills is key to address all stakeholders.
What is the key to success for someone just starting out as a CISO?
The key to success is to listen to your peer's expectations in your company. This helps build your network.
How do you measure success as a leader?
I measure success by observing when people reach out to me and my team on their own. This means the person is seeing your added value.
