Olivier Gibert is the Global Chief Technology Officer of Carrefour, the largest European grocery retailer. His role is to steer the technology strategy across the 8 countries in Europe and Latin America where they operate. With a global team of tech professionals, Olivier ensures that Carrefour is leveraging technology and data at scale, in all processes and value creation models, in order to become a Digital Retail company.
Prior to Carrefour, Olivier has been working for more than 15 years with system integrators, leading architecture practice and implementing technology across various industries. Beside tech, I spend my weekends riding my bike and woodworking.

Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.
I started in technology when I was 13 with my first computer at home. Since then, technology has always been a passion, during my studies and my professional career. I spent more than 15 years working within system integrators having various roles from developer to technical expertise and also program management. I joined Carrefour around 10 years ago to lead the tech transformation for Carrefour France in eCommerce. After 5 years, I moved to an international role to ensure we deliver technology globally to be better for our customers.
What is one of your guiding leadership principles?
Avoid tech for tech, use tech to solve business problems.
What is the greatest challenge technology leaders face today, and how are you addressing it?
Prioritizing all the initiatives and delivering impact fast is my most important challenge.
What is the key to success for someone just starting out as a CIO?
Technology background is key but not enough; you need to understand business issues and ensure consistency in your decisions over time.
How do you measure success as a leader?
The business impact technology can bring across the company.
