Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.

I have 25 years of increasing responsibility leading technical projects, programs and teams, and I have had several opportunities to work with mergers and acquisitions and divestitures at large scale. Working for larger organizations on the leading edge of technology innovation has led me to my current role.

What is one of your guiding leadership principles?

Never stop learning. Trust your team. Set them up for success.

With disruption being a key theme of recent years, where do you see the CIO role going in the next 1-2 years?

I see the role of CIO evolving to leading more through influence and with C-level peers. IT used to be a unique skill set that is now distributed highly across the business. The role of the CIO will be to embrace, support, train, educate and enable business units, IT organizations and technical experts to do more, closer to the work.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out as a CIO?

Relationships matter. Build strong relationships with your C-level peers and always focus on value.

Tell us three fun facts about yourself.

  1. I'm a sensei in American kenpo, having studied martial arts for over 35 years.
  2. I have completed an IronMan.
  3. I was a father at 16.

What is the value of joining an Evanta community?

Relationships matter at the C-level. You are peerless within the organization, so building relationships with other C-level peers outside of the organization is important – particularly for getting a variety of perspectives, technical expertise, and the ability to solve problems together.
