As they head into 2024, CHROs remain a key leader of organizational change and an advocate for employee experience in the evolving world of how and where employees work. After leading through a tumultuous few years, CHROs are emerging as the architects of organizational design and change management.
At the same time, CHROs are focused on leadership development and talent recruitment and retention, ensuring their companies have the skills to drive growth. They are also joining the enterprise-wide conversations on AI and automation, tasked with creating efficiencies along with their C-suite peers.
More than 400 CHROs across our communities shared their key priorities, opportunities and challenges in our annual survey – here’s what they reported.
Change Management Moves Up the Ranks
In 2024, CHROs report that their top priority is organizational design and change management, taking the top spot for the first time in three years and bumping leadership development down to number two. For the first time in three years, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion has dropped out of the top five priorities for CHROs.
Finding Operational Efficiencies Is Top Enterprise Priority
Creating operational efficiencies and improving productivity continues to be a top enterprise priority for CHROs, and increasing revenue has moved up as a key focus area for CHROs. Overall, their enterprise priorities mirror their C-suite peers’ with the exception of employee satisfaction and engagement, which is more of a focus for CHROs.
Budgets Have Remained Flat or Increased
In 2024, 50% of CHROs report that their budget for technology and services spending is remaining flat compared to last year. Thirty percent said that their budgets increased this year.
Investing in Recruiting & AI
Thirty percent of CHROs plan to spend on recruiting vendors and solutions, and in a new development this year, 27% of CHROs say they will invest in AI Solutions.
