As Managing Director People and Culture and reporting to the Director General, Richard Shoreland is responsible for leading Human Resources across 3,500 House of Commons colleagues. Working in Human Resources for 30 years, the vast majority of career highlights are in the private sector, delivering change and major transformation across large multi-site organisations.

Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.
Having spent a period of time undertaking HR Consultancy within the Higher Education sector, I joined Parliament just before the pandemic in late 2019. I am fortunate to work with incredible teams and individuals who make Parliament happen.
What is one of your guiding leadership principles?
Be yourself and develop the people around you.
With disruption being a key theme of recent years, where do you see the CHRO role going in the next 1-2 years?
Inclusion, performance management, data driven decisions and transformation.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out as a CHRO?
Find people you can talk to and share experiences with, you are not alone.

- I am developing my building skills, as I’m currently renovating a cottage.
- I’m trying to play golf.
- I have a realisation that trying to keep fit gets harder.
