Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.
I got my first opportunity in the Data realm back in 2014 with a focus on describing and implementing Data Strategy and Engineering for the modernization of legacy data processes and applications. One thing led to another, and eventually, I ended up building a complete Data Engineering practice from the ground up with focus on Data Governance, Platforms and Engineering, and enabling Analytics and Digital Experiences. Since then, my role has been focused on efforts on Cloud Enablement, Interoperability and building low latency API based consumption models for data.
What is one of your guiding leadership principles?
People working in a Process and with Purpose!
People build capabilities, people consume them, and people describe and follow purpose. As a leader and team member, one has to operate with positive intent and work towards aligning people towards a purpose and process.
With disruption being a key theme of the past few years, where do you see your role as a CDAO going in the next 1-2 years?
With the acceleration in technology and data transformation in the last 2 years, any leadership role will continue to experience the competing demands of rapid transformation needs, business/data growth, and the need to have an omni-channel approach for software/capability built out. Of course, the need for a strong foundation of emotional intelligence and empathy is critical, as always, for leaders and team members at all levels of an organization.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the role as a CDAO?
Be humble enough to unlearn, hungry enough to learn and have fun along the way!
Tell us 3 fun facts about yourself.
- I have been an avid runner for the last 20 years. I used to run marathons/long distances, but not anymore. I will probably drop my legs at mile 10 now.
- I have been a power reader almost all of my life. I have not finished a full book in perhaps the last 5 years. My reading interests are History, Physics (Quantum in particular), and Technology.
- I’m absolutely passionate about connecting and conversing with people.
