Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.

I started the first twelve years of my career in B2B Sales, Sales Leadership, and Commercial Operations leadership roles for technology related companies. After leading multiple successful M&A initiatives, I was recruited to lead a technology team implementing CRM technologies for MedAssets, a healthcare software company. Through expanding roles and experiences, I then was asked to build an IT team as a result of the divestiture of Kimberly-Clark’s Healthcare division, now named Avanos.

Once divested, I led their commercial digital transformation to rationalize and modernize its technology portfolio including S4/Hana and Salesforce CRM greenfield implementations. Most recently, I was recruited by UCB to build out its U.S. technology team and lead a multimillion-dollar digital business transformation to leverage AI and related technologies to better understand and meet the needs of patients living with severe diseases in UCB’s largest market.

What is one of your guiding leadership principles?

As a leader, be transparent and authentic.

What is the greatest challenge CIOs face today, and how are you addressing it?

One of our continued challenges is aligning priorities across business units or between global and local viewpoints to accelerate value creation. We continue to evolve our organizational maturity in this area through alignment exercises, understanding business expectations, creating joint accountability and program portfolio management activities across the business units to raise transparency and accountability.

What is the key to success for someone just starting out as a CIO?

A couple key activities when first starting out is to:

  1. Explore the organization and understand where value is being created
  2. Understand your stakeholder priorities and values
  3. Assess your team’s value and how it is currently aligned to the organization’s aspirations

How do you measure success as a leader?

Inspiring and empowering others to succeed.
