Avidypta (Avi) Guha is the VP of IT, Wood Products, Enterprise Architecture and Innovation for Weyerhaeuser and a Governing Body Member of the Atlanta CIO Community. Avi is a transformational change leader, with expertise in Emerging Tech, SAP S4 ERP, Customer Experience solutions, Manufacturing Operational Excellence, and a panache for creating tangible business value using talent and technology.

He loves applying AI/ML and emerging technology to professional and personal use, such as optimizing production operations to improve throughput or synthesizing AI melody to get a sound sleep.

Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.

I apply the latest technology with top talent to affect digital transformation at enterprise scale. I am bilingual - I speak both business and IT languages fluently.
 

What is one of your guiding leadership principles?

I am a servant leader. I practice communication, inclusion and accountability.
 

What is the greatest challenge CIOs face today, and how are you addressing it?

The greatest challenges or opportunities are automation using innovation, democratizing institutional knowledge, and leveraging an ecosystem of vendors to outperform the competition. We are articulating and achieving tangible business benefits from IT initiatives in a secure and responsible way.
 

What is the key to success for someone just starting out as a CIO?

  • Strategic partnerships and focusing on the critical few.
  • Grooming talent and investing in team's success. 
  • Respect the past; accelerate the future.
     

How do you measure success as a leader?

By creating value for business using technology transformation, building a culture of excellence and inclusion, measuring metrics that matter, shaping the workforce of the future, inspiring the teams to achieve our shared vision, and continuously applying feedback to course correct.
